White flags raised at Brooklyn Bridge

Police responded to the Brooklyn Bridge on Tuesday for a major security breach at one of the most highly secured landmarks in New York City. Two white flags — international symbols of surrender — fluttered from poles on the stone supports that hold cables above the span connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. It is not clear who raised the flags that had a faint appearance of the stars and stripes or why.  The American flags that are normally up at the bridge were removed.

You see them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram -- the word "selfie" has become a social media staple and now the Oxford Dictionary has named it the word of the year for 2013.

Here at FOX 10, we decided to get in on the action -- taking some selfies Tuesday morning.  None of these will likely make headlines, but there have been some selfies that people probably wish they could take back.

Remember Geraldo Rivera showing off his shirtless body -- he posted the photo to Twitter along with "70 is the new 50."

And how about all those Anthony Weiner or should we say, "Carlos Danger" selfies -- the photos of his chest and other parts -- eventually cost him his job in Congress and his chance to become the next mayor of New York.

This one didn't cause controversy, but it did get a lot of attention: Beyonce unveiled her cropped locks for the first time in a selfie posted on Instagram.

Take a look at our own FOX 10 selfies on Facebook and we'd love to see yours as well, so join the conversation at Facebook.com/myfoxphoenix!
