Coast Guard crews seized millions of dollars of cocaine in a bust last week, and brought it all back to St. Petersburg Wednesday night.
Crews unloaded 14 bales worth $12 million.
On November 4, authorities saw a suspicious ship north of Colombia and stopped it.
They got permission to search it from the Panamanian government.
That's when they found the cocaine.
They arrested five suspected smugglers. They are in custody of federal law enforcement.
A spokesman said the cocaine was headed for the U.S.
"This is a good day. We have $12 million of cocaine off the streets of the United States," said Petty Ofc 2nd Class Michael DeNyse.
The seizure and arrests were part of an international program to counter illegal smuggling of guns, weapons and cash, DeNyse said.
