It's a record-setting dominating run defense. Miami managed just two yards on 14 attempts -- just 5 inches per carry.

"When you can have an effort like that," said Greg Schiano, "two yards rushing, I think what that does, too, is the time of possession - I think we were like nine minutes plus in time of possession. When you run the ball for a buck-forty and you hold them to two, that's going to eat a lot of clock."

It gave the Bucs an edge, but didn't guarantee the win after the Dolphins scored 16 unanswered points to take the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

"Some people got that feeling -- here we go again," said Davin Joseph.

After squandering fourth-quarter leads in half of their losses, the Bucs were determined not to walk off the field with another last-minute collapse. Linebacker Lavonte David took control on the sidelines, calling his team together and dropping some pretty harsh words.

"It was about four or five words that I had to say and I meant them," said David. "Everybody listened and we went out on the field and handled business."

What were those motivational words that inspired the Bucs to their first win?

"It was some expletive stuff," David said with a smile. "Basically the bottom line was, 'Hey, everything changes today. All the stuff that's been going on stops right now.'"

"Guys really paid attention to what he said and bought in to what he was saying," offered Darrelle Revis. "Guys actually executed down the stretch."

The Bucs delivered the knockout punch on defense -- back-to-back sacks for their first sacks of the game at the most critical time.

"I think they were huge," said Schiano. "I don't think he [Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill] expected that look coming at that point. I thought it was a really good call by [defensive coordinator] Bill [Sheridan], both of them. Sometimes you save something for the end and he did, and it worked great."

The Bucs finally are able to finish. Revis sealed it with a pick.

"We had to show the world that what you've been seeing the past eight weeks is not who we are," added David.
