Police look for suspect in attempted luring case

Posted: Updated:

Bradenton Police are searching for a man they believe tried to lure a little girl to his car with a teddy bear.

Eric Vericella says his 5-year old daughter was playing under the family's carport late Friday afternoon when he heard a car roll by, and then reverse. Vericella was also outside, but sitting in a corner of the carport that's not easy to view from the road.

Vericella says he heard a man call out to Layla. When he stood up to see who it was, the car sped away.

"He had a teddy bear, it was pink. It was dirty. When he saw daddy, he dropped the teddy bear and drove away," Layla Vericella said Monday.

Bradenton police describe the suspect as a white male, with no facial hair who is balding. They believe the man is between 55-65, and driving a gray Mercury Grand Marquis.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bradenton Police at 941-932-9300 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-TIPS (8477).
