Troopers say a speeding sports car slammed into another car on U.S. 19 overnight, killing the driver of the second vehicle.
According to the FHP report, it was after 3 a.m. when a Mazda Miata driven by Ryan Sean Brosnan was cruising northbound on U.S. 19 in Holiday "at a speed in excess of 100 mph." For some reason, the Miata plowed into the back of a Kia Sephia that was also heading northbound at the intersection of Eastwood Lane.
The crash sent the Sephia across the median, where it caught fire. Emergency crews rescued the driver -- identified by FHP as Courtney Ann Kreckel, 38 -- but she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Brosnan, 21, was arrested on marijuana charges. Troopers say additional charges are pending the outcome of the crash investigation and toxicology reports.
