A Tampa Bay area dentist has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a drunken driving crash that left two pedestrians dead.
A Hillsborough County judge sentenced 37-year-old Matthew Moye on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter and DUI with property damage. He was scheduled to go on trial next month.
Authorities say Moye was going around 80 mph in October 2010 just before he jumped a curb onto a sidewalk and hit Douglas Kozar and Kate Kohlier. They had just finished their shifts at Marriott Waterside Hotel and were heading toward the Harbour Island parking garage. A third co-worker managed to jump out of the way.
Tests after the crash showed Moye's blood alcohol content was 0.13 percent. State law considers a driver impaired at 0.08.
