Jury finds mother accused of DUI with kids in car not guilty

Posted: Updated:
MARIETTA, Ga. -

A Jonesboro mother accused of driving drunk with her children in the car wants to clear her name.

Back in 2011, Maria Baylor was arrested by Marietta police and charged on numerous counts, including driving under the influence, child endangerment and terroristic threats. Her four children were in the car at the time of her arrest.

On Wednesday, a jury found Baylor not guilty on most counts; the only charge she was convicted on was a speeding charge. However, the mother said that the arrest still haunts her every time she logs on to the internet.

"You Google my name, everything bad comes up bad about me," said Baylor.

The terroristic threat, apparently given to Baylor for something she said to the officer, was dropped two days after the arrest, she said.

Baylor said she felt vindicated by the jury's decision.

"I didn't do anything wrong and I knew that if other people saw my story they would feel the same way," Baylor said.

A spokesman for Marietta police said that the department stands by its' arrest of Baylor, saying at the time there was enough evidence to take her to jail for DUI.

Baylor said that the haunting images of the arrest, which still linger on the internet, make it difficult for her to get a job.

"When you Google my name and everything comes up people look at me like, ‘Oh no,'" said Baylor.

She hopes going public will set the record straight.

"I'm not looking for some big payback I just want justice," Baylor said.

Baylor says she is considering legal action against Marietta police but is still searching for an attorney to help her out.
