Police Search For Hit and Run Driver

Posted: Updated:

Police are on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver who put a man in the hospital.

A FOX 29 viewer reached out to us to help find the driver who hit her boyfriend, a father of three, in Bensalem before taking off.

Bensalem police tell us they have a major clue in their custody, the passenger-side mirror of the fleeing vehicle. They're hoping that evidence, plus tips from the public, can help them track down the hit-and-run suspect.

Judy Worthington says the past two days have been a nightmare that just won't end.

"I heard Julian got hit, my world stopped," Worthington said. "My insides are shaken. My heart hurts. I feel like crying every day. He's my only son."

Now, family members say 27-year-old Julian Loughrey is committed to a hospital bed with a damaged spleen, dislocated jaw and bruises all over his body.

Police say Loughrey was knocked off his bicycle Monday night by a hit-and-run driver on the 4300 block of Bensalem Boulevard.

The victim's girlfriend Tammy Shetzline says Loughrey was navigating a narrow shoulder of the road on his way home from his second job when he got clipped by a dark-colored SUV. It was around 8:30 p.m.

"By the time I got to him, his clothes had been stripped off of him. He was strapped to a stretcher and a neck brace was on him," Shetzline said. "He was face-down, unconscious with his head in the road."

Police have collected the hit-and-run vehicle's passenger-side mirror from the scene and believe the car was either a 2012 or 2013 Dodge Durango or Jeep Grand Cherokee.

"I can't begin to fathom a human being so cold, heartless that they wouldn't stop to see what they hit, who they hit or if they're OK," Shetzline said.

Shetzline says her boyfriend is the family's sole provider. She stays home to care for their 2-year-old son, Chase, who has various medical needs.

Loughrey has always biked to work because the family didn't have access to a car. Now, the man will be out of work for at least the next two to three weeks and on bed rest while the man's family does everything in their power to help police catch the person who sped away from the accident scene.

"We're gonna getcha. We're gonna getcha. It's just a matter of time," Worthington said.

Anyone with any information on this hit-and-run is urged to contact the Bensalem Police Department.

Julian was released on Friday and will be on bed rest at for the next two to three months.  A local organizer has helped his family create fundraiser. http://www.supportlocalstuff.com/hitandrun
