All morning, Tampa was abuzz with speculation about a concert announcement that was supposedly so big, Mayor Bob Buckhorn would be there.
Well, maybe the mayor is just a big fan of 'The Piano Man.'
That's right -- Billy Joel will be coming to the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
Buckhorn was indeed there to make the announcement at the Forum this afternoon. The mayor called the artist "timeless."
"This is a guy that's been filling stadiums for 40 years," the mayor said. "I think it's going to be a tremendous success and once again it adds a vibe, it adds an excitement in downtown Tampa that really encourages more people to come downtown."
However, the quick reaction on the Twitter -- which, admittedly, skews more toward Bieber and Gaga -- was less than favorable.
"He still sings?" one user tweeted.
"All that hype for Billy Joel?? What a giant letdown," another offered.
The concert is on January 17 and tickets go on sale November 15. Prices for the Miami stop a week earlier range from $40 to $650.
