TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Deputies say a student at Ippolito Elementary School brought a loaded gun onto a school bus today.

We're told it was a .22-caliber Derringer, and the bus driver spotted the student putting it in his pocket.

The driver told authorities, and the sheriff's office had the bus unloaded. The boy was arrested, the sheriff's office says.

Deputies say they then contacted the boy's parents, and the parents said the child took the gun from their home without their knowledge.

Right now, detectives say there doesn't seem to be "malicious intent." They believe he was just showing it off to friends.

FOX 13's Deborah Bowden is headed to the school. Stay with us for updates.
