Our continuing series of the best golf courses around the Tampa Bay area.
Lexington Oaks is one of the more balanced golf courses you'll find in our area, and it's certainly one of your best options in North Tampa/Pasco County region.
The amateur golfer can score on the par-4s, it has one of the most intriguing collection of par-3s, and golfers then face a great closing stretch on No. 17 and 18.
Best par-3: The 17th comes in at a close second, but we're going with No. 2. It's about 225 yards off the back tees, and you'll need every bit of a long iron to carry the water (see the pictures). The green isn't huge, and there are bunkers and trees surrounding on all sides. Wear your heart on your sleeve for this one.
Best par-4: The par-4s on this course are pretty straight forward – except for No. 12. This is one of the best risk-reward holes in the entire area. It's about 297 yards from the back tees, so with a big drive, you can reach it. If you're playing up, it's definitely reachable with a driver. But there's also trouble, and choosing an iron is no easy task, either.
At the end of the day, this is a really fun hole to play.
par-5: The 18th is a great par-5, but we're going with No. 14. It's
a slight double-dog leg, and the approach into the green is guarded by a clump
of trees. You must hit a draw into the green, and it takes two solid shots to
even think about reaching it in two. Don't count on it.
