ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -

It's official. Charlie Crist is running for governor of Florida.

The Florida Division of Elections website lists him among the 23 candidates who have filed to run against incumbent Gov. Rick Scott.  Crist is listed as a Democrat after his party switch last December.

According to the site, his campaign registered with the state today.

Crist is widely expected to kick off his campaign in a Monday appearance in his hometown of St. Pete. A rally is planned for 10 a.m. at Albert Whitted Park.

Crist has already served one term as governor, but as a Republican. He did not seek reelection so that he could run for Senate in 2010.  But after trailing in the polls, he switched his affiliation to Independent in an unsuccessful attempt to beat Marco Rubio.
