Just days before her boyfriend Dontae Morris goes on trial for murdering two Tampa Police officers, Cortnee Brantley was back in front of a federal judge.
The judge denied efforts by federal prosecutors to have the bond revoked for Brantley, the former girlfriend of Dontae Morris.
Prosecutors wanted her bond revoked for violating her probation.
The judge gave Brantley a second chance, but also told her clearly in court that if she doesn't follow the rules this time, he's sending her to jail.
"He gave fair warning, not one single jaywalking, I guess," said Grady Irvin, Brantley's attorney.
Prosecutors launched several complaints against Brantley's recent behavior. They argue Brantley hasn't followed the rules, and say she hasn't checked in with court officials each week.
They say she also failed to report that she had been pulled over for a traffic stop.
The judge didn't buy it, giving her a scolding and a stern warning: break the rules again and she goes to jail.
"She knows what the rules are. The judge laid them out for her. She's getting that right now from pre-trial services, and I'll leave things in the courtroom. That's probably the best way to leave it," Irvin said.
After the judge lectured her, Brantley walked down the street to the federal building and reported to her probation officer. She spent about 20 or 30 minutes there and then left without talking to reporters.
"She knows what the rules are," her attorney, Grady Irvin, said outside the courthouse this morning. "The judge laid them out for her. She's getting that right now from pre-trial services, and I'll leave things in the courtroom. That's probably the best way to leave it."
