Budding young artist are having a fun time in class. Why wouldn't they, considering they are learning how to draw cartoons.
"They can take a character and make that character become large and give that character super powers," art teacher Tim Gibbons said.
They are learning from a great teacher: artist Tim Gibbons.
"The cartoon world is an imaginary world and that is where most kids live anyway. This sort of gives them the freedom to do that create," Tim said. "To take a world that is in their imagination and put it down on paper."
Gibbons teaches this cartooning class at the Hyde Park Art Studio. The kids are mesmerized.
"Here you get to do free draw and stuff. It's kind of fun like you can share your creativity and stuff," says Mateo Craig, an 11-year-old art student.
And that's exactly what Gibbons hopes the kids learn here to express themselves creatively.
"Just being creative and having your own work, it's really nice and a lot of fun to do," said 13 year old art student Timothy Danse.
"To grasp the very skills, very basic skills, is the main thing for any artist," Tim said.
And it's obvious, watching his class that the kids are listening.
