Tampa Yankees close to Ocala move

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

After nearly 20 years in Tampa, the Tampa Yankees may be on the move.

The minor league team wants to move to Ocala. But before they can move, Ocala's City Council must approve the plans for a $45 million stadium. They'll get their first look at them Tuesday morning.

If the plans are approved, the Tampa Yankees could begin playing in Ocala in three years.

The proposed move would not affect the New York Yankees' Spring Training home at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
