Baby left alone at home

A Long Island man has been charged with leaving his 13-month-old son alone at home.

Suffolk County police say it happened Sunday during a weekend visitation with the child.

Police say they responded after receiving a 911 call of an infant crying in the basement apartment of a multi-family dwelling on Little Treasure Drivein Medford.

Police found the boy in a bedroom with a soiled diaper.  Police say that Officer Dena Miceli comforted the child, checked his health and changed the diaper while they waited for the father to return.

The father, Kelly Voss, 44, was arrested when he returned to the house about 40 minutes later. Police charged him with endangering the welfare of a child. He was set to be arraigned Monday.

The child is in the mother's custody.

    Police on Long Island are asking for the public's help in finding a forklift thief.  The bright yellow vehicle went missing Monday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. from its parking spot near a building in Riverhead. One or more people used a flatbed tow truck with a white cab to remove the Caterpillar forklift.

    A Queens teenager who admitted smoking marijuana and speeding before crashing into a tree in 2012, killing four of his friends on Long Island, was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison on Tuesday.  The judge decided against a four-year youthful offender sentence for Joseph Beer, who was 17 at the time of the crash.
