Neighborhood family feuds turn deadly

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A man and woman were shot and killed in Tampa after a neighborhood dispute got out of control, Tampa police said.

Investigators said it started outside a home on East 110th Avenue at about 8 p.m. Saturday, when Juan Molina shot and killed his neighbor Erica White while they were arguing outside her home.

Police found her body in the street.

Detectives said Molina then walked over to Percy Basden's home and Molina fired a shot through the door, killing Basden, 53, and leaving his wife, Michelle, in shock.

"He's a good person. He's a lovely person; he is friendly we everybody around here," she said.

Michelle Basden said she was at a birthday party with her children when she heard her husband had been shot. She didn't think it was serious at first and was stunned to find out he'd been killed.

"When I think about it I be just crying because that's my half," she said, adding what makes matters harder to comprehend is Molina was looking for someone else at her house when he shot her husband. "My half is gone ... I got two kids to think about."

Police said after Molina shot Basden, he tried to break into his house, but the victim's adult stepson fired at Molina, hitting him in the face.

Neighbors said this was a violent escalation of an ongoing feud between two families.

"It is crazy," said Dennis Powell, who lives down the street. "It's a damn shame that we have to live in a world the way it's going and we have it here on our own front steps."

Molina is recovering from his injuries and is charged with two counts aggravated assault, and two counts of murder.
