Three people in Sarasota hospitalized after smoking 'spice,' police say

Posted: Updated:

Three people have been rushed to the hospital after smoking spice in Sarasota.

Two people collapsed around 10 a.m. at Lemon Avenue; another collapsed at Kumquat Court around the same time.

Earlier this week, four other people got dangerously ill after smoking spice at Five Points Park.

Police think the synthetic marijuana is laced with dangerous chemicals. They say they're determined to find who sold it, how it was made, and who made it -- and then make arrests.

Investigators are going to smoke shops around the city, buying spice. They're testing it to find out what's in it.

"Spice" is sold under many names like "K2," "Moon Rocks" and fake weed.
