Night clubs and hot spots in the city of Tampa are only a few city council votes away from a big change.
A new proposal would stop alcohol sales at midnight, rather than 3 a.m., but here's the catch: businesses could get a special permit to continue selling until 3.
Councilwoman Yvonne Yolie Capin says it's a way to reign in those clubs with a reputation for not following the rules.
If they don't have their act together, the city would suspend their special permit.
"Having a cocktail at dinner is the American way, that's the way it is, but by the same token, they want people to follow the rules," she said.
"We have rules in place; this is a mechanism to enforce the rules," she added.
We spoke with several bar owners in Ybor City and their reactions were mixed to the idea. Some patrons, though, were behind the idea.
"You've got to be able to regulate it like anything else," Lacy Mcgauley said.
"If they're adhering to the rules, they have no problem, it's as simple as paying your business license," Copin said.
