Longtime Florida Congressman Bill Young is in "guarded" condition after being hospitalized in Washington D.C. for a back injury, his family said.
Young's family issued a statement saying his condition turned for the worse overnight, and that he is gravely ill.
FOX 13's John Wilson is a close friend of Young. The family says Young made it through the night but is still not responsive this morning.
Reports had emerged on social media that Young had died Thursday; his staff and family quickly came out and said the reports were untrue.
Rep. Young, 82, has represented parts of Florida's west coast in the House of Representatives since 1971. He recently announced in that he was retiring from Congress, and after that, praise for his service came in from both sides of the aisle.
Young is the third most senior member of the House, tied with Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY).
