UPDATE: Deputies have arrested the suspects and identified them as Justin D. Blackmon and Timothy A. Connell.
Deputies spent the afternoon searching for two armed carjackers after they fled from an officer in the Plant City area.
According to the sheriff's office, a detective with the Plant City Police Department was working an unrelated investigation on Bruton Road west of S.R. 39 around 12:30 p.m. when he spotted two men driving a brown Honda Accord.
The detective thought the men looked suspicious so he turned around and pulled in behind them.
That's when the driver of the car apparently panicked, accelerated, and drove off into a ditch. Both men in the car took off, running north into a heavily wooded area that runs north to the Pasco County line.
Investigators have since learned that the Honda Accord was stolen during an armed carjacking early this morning at a Tampa gas station.
Deputies used K-9s on the ground and helicopters in the air to search for the men.
Both men were reportedly armed during the armed carjacking, and deputies say they should still be considered armed and dangerous.
Not long after 5 p.m., SkyFOX showed one person being taken into custody. It was not immediately confirmed that he was one of the two suspects.
