Crews Clean Mold in Sicklerville School After Teachers Report Sickness

Posted: Updated:

Only FOX29 cameras were outside Ann Mullen Middle School in Sicklerville NJ when remediation crews were spending their Friday night cleaning up mold in classrooms.

Teachers contacted FOX29 earlier this week, saying they and a few students got sick recently.

District officials confirmed "slightly elevated levels of mold" in two classrooms, a guidance counselor's office and part of the library.

They confirmed reports of general illness as well but dismissed the mold as a possible cause.

"I believe the school is safe however anytime we receive a report from an (external agency), we want to be a good owner," said Superintendent John Bilodeau.

He said the cleaning crews were dispatched a day after the district got a report from the Camden County Health Department documenting the mold levels.

The remediation work will continue through the Columbus Day weekend. Bilodeau said testing teams will be back out to confirm the levels are down before school will be re-opened.
