HUD Employees Protest Government Shutdown In Philly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

We're now nine days into the government shutdown, and many government workers are still on furlough.

On Wednesday, Department of Housing and Urban Development employees held a protest outside Philadelphia City Hall on behalf of federal workers who are off the job.

Also on day nine, with the debt limit deadline looming, President Obama is trying to make some progress. He plans to meet with both parties at the White House this week, beginning with house Democrats on Wednesday evening.

The president says he'll accept a short-term agreement but will not negotiate until the government reopens and Congress agrees to raise the debt ceiling with no strings attached.

Democrats oppose Republican efforts to attach spending cuts and changes to Obamacare to any budget deal.
