DETROIT (WJBK) -

A six-year-old child is in critical condition after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday morning on Detroit's east side.

FOX 2's Maurielle Lue says the child was crossing the intersection of St. Clair and E. Warren with his mother and two brothers when he was struck by the vehicle.

"It was just this car - it just came flying. It didn't try to blow the horn or nothing. She just kept going. My brother flipped up in the air. I hope they catch this person," Deshaun's brother, Deandre, tells Lue.

Deshaun was rushed to Children's Hospital where Lue says surgery was performed. He remains in critical condition.

Police say the child was hit by silver compact car driven by a black female. Police say the driver fled the scene driving the wrong way down E. Warren.

They hope surveillance video can provide more details on the suspect's vehicle.
