TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The murder trial for a man accused of killing two Tampa teenagers continues Wednesday. Charles Waits is charged with murder. Attorneys gave opening statements Tuesday morning.

"There will be no doubt, and it will be absolutely uncontroverted and uncontradicted that the defendant was present at the victim's house during this horrific murder," said prosecuting attorney Michelle Doherty.

Several witnesses took the stand, including a former neighbor of the Brito family. Jermel Allen testified that he saw Waits running from the Brito home on the morning the teens were killed.

He also testified that he heard the gunshots and chased the getaway car to get a tag number. On the stand, Allen identified Waits as the man he saw.

The defense, however, worked hard to attack Allen's credibility. Waits' lawyer pointed out inconsistencies between Allen's prior statements and his testimony in court.

At one point, the defense questioned Allen about his earlier testimony on Tuesday that he drank only two beers in the hours before the murders.

"How many drinks did you have that night?" the defense attorney asked. "Maybe five or six," Allen responded.

Prosecutors say Judy Brito, Kiara and Jeremi's mother, may take the stand. Previous reports surfaced that Judy and Kiara Brito sold drugs, which investigators say lured the killers to the house to murder the children and steal jewelry and cash.

A second suspect, Tavari Grant, is also charged with murdering the two teens. He will be tried separately.
