A former Bay area elementary school will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted on sex charges.
Michael Lander was found guilty of having sex with a 12-year-old student. The judge gave him a life sentence Tuesday.
At one point, Lander appeared before the all-female jury in his boxers to show burn scars on his legs because the girl, who is now 18, had not mentioned them.
Lander claimed he was innocent and never had sex with the girl.
The jury did not buy it, and the judge has finalized his sentence.
Lander's ex-wife and stepdaughter spoke at the hearing, and told the judge to throw the book at them.
"He has shattered my heart, my family's heart, my children's hearts, and I can't even express the amount of sympathy I have for the victim," Jennifer Lander said. "He's believed his own lies and lived own lies for a long time."
"He ripped childhoods away from people and he will never ever understand that," said Autumn Boisvert. "I would like it known that Michael Lander cannot control, manipulate, or hurt any more people. And to me, that is justice."
Lander's life sentence includes no chance of parole.
