Rays pitcher David Price is well-known for his social savvy on Twitter, but his 140-character thoughts got him in a bit of trouble this weekend.
Price made a public apology via Twitter (@DAVIDprice14) after a series of frustrating tweets following the Rays' loss in Game 2 to Boston, including criticism for Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and the TBS studio analysts.
In one of the tweets, he even said, "SAVE IT NERDS," referring to TBS personalities Dirk Hayhurst and Tom Verducci. Price didn't like the criticism they gave him after his pitching performance.
On Sunday, Price tweeted this:
"Last night got out of hand and I apologize for the things that I said on here...if I offended you I am very sorry for doing so...#thatsnotme."
The team worked out Sunday and manager Joe Maddon said he thought Price did the right thing – after realizing he initially did the wrong thing.
The Rays face Boston tonight at Tropicana Field for Game 3. A Red Sox win would eliminate Tampa Bay from the playoffs.
