The ATM at the TD Bank on Silver Maple Parkway in Wesley Chapel sat in an odd place Saturday.
On its side near the drive thru banking window, some 15 feet from where it's supposed to be.
"About 12:30 a.m. this morning we received a call from TD Bank headquarters they notified us that someone was trying to steal an ATM from their bank," said Pasco County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Kevin Doll.
And how did the suspect try to get away with their treasure?
With construction equipment.
"What was unusual is that they were using a forklift to try to do that," said Doll.
When investigators arrived on scene early Saturday morning whoever was behind this caper was long gone, but they left a couple things behind.
"The forklift was still there, the ATM was intact, they did not get into the ATM they did not get into the bank," said Doll.
So they didn't get away with any money, but how in the world did they get access to a forklift?
Investigators say they can probably find the answer nearby.
"We think it may have come from a construction site from across the street," said Doll.
As for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office they say this is a first for them, they've never had anyone try to steal an entire ATM.
"Pretty desperate to try to get the cash that's in an ATM," said Doll.
Deputies say they do not have any footage from the security camera.
When they get it from the bank they will release it to try to identify the suspects behind this.
