UM Solar Car team hoping to win in Australia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WJBK) -

They've finished top three in the world five times, but UM's Solar Car team wants to be number one! They're in Australia competing for the top spot in the World Solar Challenge. The team took off around 7pm Detroit time on Saturday.

The car was built by a team of 100 students in Ann Arbor. It will compete with 40 other teams from 23 countries in the four-day challenge. The race is 1,800 miles across Australia.

UM's team says this year's car is more efficient and competitive than ever before.
