A newly minted budget deal to avert future government shutdowns gained important ground Wednesday among House Republicans who are more accustomed to brinkmanship than compromise, even though it would nudge federal deficits higher three years in a row.

The 16-day partial government shutdown is all but certain to figure prominently in Thursday's final sparring match between candidates in the governor's race. And that could be a problem for Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli.

WASHINGTON -

A busy and stressful week in the nation’s capital has taken a toll on many area residents.

One person in particular, former mayor and current D.C. councilman Marion Barry, sent out this tweet summing up his frustration.

Barry wrote: 'WHAT.THE.*.IS.GOING.ON? Lion on the loose. Congress out to lunch. Police shoot out at Capitol. Smh...and you all think "I" have drama?? Can't script this *. #lifeindc'

In his tweet, Barry made reference to the partial government shutdown, a shooting on Capitol Hill in which a woman was killed, and a report that a mountain lion was spotted in southeast D.C.
