Johnathan Bent loves watching movies where the hero saves the day. However, the eight-year-old never dreamed he'd star in his own real-life drama and be the hero.

Officials say that the eight-year-old boy was sleeping over at an elderly neighbor's apartment. He was awakened in the middle of the night by a scream from the elderly woman he was watching over. He noticed the fire and smoke.

First thing Bent tried to do was to pour water on the fire, describes WSMV. However, the fire was too strong, so Bent ran through the building and banged on every door to alert all the neighbors.

Once awakened, the neighbors sprang into action and pulled everyone to safety.

Firefighters came soon and rescued five people, including three young children. They say the young hero's reaction likely saved their lives.

Later investigation found that the fire started when the elderly neighbor's cigarette was accidentally dropped near her oxygen tube, says WSMV
