The Hillsborough County School Board meeting was packed Tuesday night as members discussed superintendent Mary Ellen Elia's job.
The school board discussed her evaluation and eventually voted to extend her contract.
It was a 5 to 2 vote on the heels of a heated debate.
School board chairwoman April Griffin voted against an extension, and gave Elia a low score on her evaluation.
Griffin told the school board she says things have to change.
"The complete lack of respect for the public as evidenced by the treatment of parents and community partners and speakers at public meetings is unacceptable," Griffin said.
Elia's contract will be extended by one year. Her current salary is $260,000.
