Belt Parkway remains dark - FOX 13 News

Belt Parkway remains dark

Posted: Updated:

A 3-mile stretch of the Belt Parkway between Flatbush Avenue and Knapp Street in Brooklyn is pitch-black at night.

About 150 street lights have been out since Superstorm Sandy.

City councilman Lew Fidler is fed up. He says the city department of transportation promised to install emergency lighting months ago And delaying it has put the public at risk.

Fox 5 News asked the dot why the lights still are not working nearly a year after Superstorm Sandy.

The DOT issued a statement saying: "Temporary lighting was arranged in conjunction with the ongoing Belt Parkway rehabilitation project. DOT is working to install them in the coming weeks."

The DOT did not address why it has taken nearly a year for the temporary lights.

The agency says it is working to get federal reimbursement for permanent replacements in conjunction with ongoing work to rebuild and rehabilitate Belt Parkway bridges.
