Maria Zoller is quiet, bashful and shy -- that is until she opens her mouth to sing. Her remarkable voice is "What's Right With Tampa Bay."
It's the voice of an angel.
Maria Zoller is 1only 5 years old and she is already one of the best opera singers in the state.
"I just think of the beautiful lyrics and I sing my heart out," Maria says. "That's what I do."
To watch Maria sing you would think she doesn't have a care in the world. But she has been through a lot: she's from Romania, and was adopted as a toddler by the Zoller family in Carrollwood.
"I came to America when I was about 3 from Romania, and classical music was what helped me come out of my shell. And I just loved it ever since then," she says.
Singing opera has carried Maria thru much anxiety and shyness.
"Singing just lets me be free. I can be me, you know. I don't have to live up to any expectations," she says.
She attributes much of her happiness to being able to sing.
"It has a very special place in my heart," Maria said.
She can sing in four different languages: English, Italian, German and French.
"I believe that it really that it heals the heart. It's so beautiful, it has so much meaning to it," Maria said.
With talent like this, she can take it as far as she wants to go. She is one of 20 students accepted to the California Opera House.
Also, she recently auditioned for the New York Lyric Opera to sing at the Metropolitan Opera House.
We wish her the best of luck!
