Walmart store coming to Midtown St. Petersburg

Posted: Updated:
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -

Walmart will open a store in Midtown St. Petersburg, city leaders confirmed Monday.

It will be at 22nd Street South and 18th Avenue South, in the plaza formerly anchored by Sweetbay.

FOX 13's Steve Nichols reported two weeks ago that the announcement was imminent, citing documents and emails from Walmart.

The store is expected to open after the first of the year, with 95 job openings.

Sweetbay left the area earlier in February because of poor sales, and it was bad news for customers because it was the only grocery store in the area.

A temporary hiring center will open on October 7th at 1201 22nd Street South, or you can apply online at http://careers.walmart.com
