A man and a woman face charges in connection with what police are describing as a dangerous chase from Camden into Philadelphia over the weekend.
Erwin Boyd, 40, of Jersey City, and Tikeena Isreal, 41, of North 18th Street in Philadelphia, face charges of Aggravated assault, conspiracy, fleeing from law enforcement, possession of stolen property and DUI, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.
On Sunday morning at approximately 10:45 a.m., Camden County police near the Ben Franklin Bridge tried to pull over a 2011 Volkswagen CC that was suspected of being stolen, but the car sped away, narrowly missing a Camden officer.
The car crossed the bridge and raced up Interstate 676 West at speeds over 90 mph, police said. Soon after, police say, Boyd switched seats with Isreal, and the speeding car merged onto I-76 West. At this point Pennsylvania State Police joined Camden police in the pursuit.
The car made a U-turn into oncoming traffic and went down the on-ramp.
State police tried to intercept the vehicle by going up the on-ramp, but the driver pointed the car at the trooper, necessitating evasive action, police said. The defendants then hit the guardrails on both sides of the ramp, according to police.
Israel was arrested at the scene, and Boyd was caught after a brief chase on foot, police said. Both are expected to be arraigned sometime Monday.
