SWAT standoff in Carrollwood

Posted: Updated:

What started as an apparent argument between James Marshall Fullwood II and his girlfriend ended in a SWAT standoff with a portion of this Carrollwood Neighborhood evacuated.

Deputies were initially called to the home on Cypress Ridge Place because apparently Fullwood made some pretty serious threats to his girlfriend.

"He did hold her at gunpoint, threatened to kill her, she escaped," said Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Cristal Bermudez Nunez.

He also left the home in his car but when he saw a Hillsborough County Deputy he went back, and barricaded himself inside.

"The patrol supervisor attempted to negotiate with the suspect, try to get him to come outside, he was unsuccessful," said Bermudez Nunez.

That's when SWAT was called.

They set up a perimeter and evacuated eight families who lived close to the scene.

"We evacuate those nearby residences just for their safety," said Bermudez Nunez.

Eventually Fullwood, who has a pretty long rap sheet, was coaxed out without incident and taken into custody...

"That was our main concern, to get him out safely.  He's being charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and domestic violence battery," said Bermudez Nunez.
