An Olympic sprinter, whose gold medal was stolen out of his truck, now has it back.
Demetrius Pinder is an Olympic runner from the Bahamas who lives and trains in Bradenton. He won the gold in the 4-by-400 race at the London Olympics last year.
Two weeks ago, he accidentally left the medal in his truck overnight. The next morning, he got up and it was gone.
Thanks to some tips, Bradenton police were able to make an arrest and get the medal back.
"I'll probably take it straight to the bank and probably get a safety deposit," he laughed. "So no more showing it around and trying to make people smile."
The man accused of stealing the medal, Allen Nichols, made his first court appearance today. Police say he sold the medal, and it's a good thing they found it quickly because it probably would have been melted down for the gold.
