Tampa has become a hotspot for single people, according to the latest numbers.
According to the Census Bureau's American Community, Tampa's never-married singles now outnumber married people.
The survey shows of Tampa's male population, 46 percent have never been married. The same survey shows 38 percent of women have never been married.
Researchers say the numbers are largely because of the recession. Young people are graduating from college, in debt and without a job. The last thing they want to do is tie the knot.
The growth in the never-married population is also changing the housing industry. Builders are constructing more one and two bedroom homes opposed to the standard three bedroom two bath house.
