The teacher of the year now has a new title: convicted felon.
But even as the handcuffs came on, Ethel Anderson showed little reaction to the verdict: Guilty of all nine counts of molesting a student.
Her parents stood silent, her mother closing her eyes in heartbreak.
Just 24 hours earlier, the victim who is now 14, described a secret sexual relationship the two had when he was just 12 years old.
"She said she wanted me so bad and she wanted to go farther but I just didn't want to lose my virginity to a teacher," the victim said.
The jury heard about sexually charged text messages the student and teacher exchanged and about love and lust.
And they heard from Anderson, who defended herself, by calling the boy's allegations nothing more than boyish fantasies.
She denied touching the boy and said the text messages were more like sex therapy for a troubled boy, and hardly evidence of a crime.
But alternate juror Steven Marshall didn't buy it.
"It looked really sketchy with the whole sexual therapy, and her responses," Marshall said.
On the other hand, Marshall said the victim was believable and says Anderson should be locked up, far away from another student or classroom.
"He was just 12 years old. There's no way around it, and it's wrong and she should, whatever she gets, she deserves it," Marshall said.
Anderson's sentencing date is November 5th. She faces up to 135 years in prison.
