NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

New York State Police have arrested a Hudson Valley father after an ATV ride with his 18-month-old son ended in a serious crash.

Thomas Lorino, 31, of Stony Point, called for help after he was riding on a Suzuki ATV with his toddler in his lap and the vehicle's snow plow blade hit a tree, knocking down a large limb. The branch slammed onto the two of them, New York State Police said.

Lorino suffered a minor abrasion on his forehead, but the limb hit the boy on the back of his skull, police said. The boy was taken Westchester Medical Center in stable condition.

Police said that Lorino and his son were not wearing helmets.  Lorino now faces child endangerment charges along with traffic violations pertaining to the operation of an All Terrain Vehicle.

He is due back in court in October.
