Minecraft: game and educational tool

Gather up any group of kids and there's a good chance Minecraft is their game of choice.

It is a digital sandbox of sorts where users take out the occasional zombie and primarily use geometry and math to build levels and worlds inside a virtual-looking Legoland.

Nearly 30 million people play on PCs, gaming systems, tablets, and smart phones. Some kids log two or three hours a day exchanging ideas and strategies online. Some parents don't see many negatives.

Joel Levin created MinecraftEdu, a company that runs a version of the game as a teaching tool. He recently linked up for a class with the American Museum of Natural History.

"If you're a history teacher you can create an ancient civilization and have your students explore it," he said. "If you're a science teacher you can set up experiments."

Singer Constantine Maroulis is back on Broadway in Rock of Ages and he couldn't be more excited. “It's incredible. I think every actor's dream is to create a role that becomes an iconic show all around the world. The show is played for millions of people. To be back on Broadway is a great time,” said Maroulis. The Brooklyn born New Jersey raised performer returned to the role he helped create this summer. The question was never if, but when, he would come back.
