St. Petersburg police arrested a wanted fugitive who they say used an infant as a human shield before he was taken into custody.
Matthew Wehunt, 26, was arrested Tuesday morning. He had warrants out for two counts of auto theft.
Police say they got information he was at a home at 1301 79th Avenue North. When they went there, officers saw three woman leaving in a car, and pulled it over,
Investigators say the three women denied Wehunt was in the house.
But officers at the house said they saw blinds moving inside, and when they approached, they say Wehunt shoved a 3-month-old child into view in the window.
Police went in, arrested Wehunt and found three other small children inside. He faces felony charged based on his warrants, and also is charged with child abuse.
The three women were also arrested and charged with child abuse.
