DETROIT (AP) - Authorities from several agencies have been involved in investigations of businesses in Detroit's Eastern Market area.

Officials haven't discussed how many merchants were targeted or which specific merchants were targeted, but Fox 2 has confirmed the investigations were carried out by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and are related to a federal food stamp fraud investigation.

Some of the businesses were closed but the overall market remained open.

The public market and the adjacent business district incorporate more than 250 independent vendors and merchants. They include processors, wholesalers and retailers.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
