TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Following multiple highly publicized mishaps with its ships, Carnival Cruise Line on Thursday unveiled an unexpected and unmatched new perk: A money-back guarantee.

In a written statement, the Miami-based company said its new 'Great Vacation Guarantee' will allow dissatisfied passengers to cancel their cruise mid-trip and receive a 110% refund. Those customers will also receive complimentary transportation home plus a $100 shipboard credit for a future cruise.

"The 'Great Vacation Guarantee' is designed to provide an assurance to those consumers who may be considering a cruise that we stand behind our product," said Carnival CEO Gerry Cahill. "If they are dissatisfied for any reason, they have a simple and hassle-free means for receiving a full refund and more,"

No other cruise line offers a money-back guarantee.

To request a refund, Carnival said unhappy passengers must notify the ship's front desk within 24 hours of commencing their cruise. Passengers will then be transported home by air from the next port of call—at no cost.

"Carnival will fully handle all the necessary travel arrangements to make it a truly hassle-free experience," the company said.

According to the company's statement its ‘Great Vacation Guarantee' will apply to all three to eight night trips to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Alaska, Canada, Mexican Riviera, and New England through April 30, 2015.

Carnival sails two ships from Tampa: The Carnival Paradise sails to Mexico year round and the Carnival Legend sails seasonally to the western Caribbean and Mexico.

According to the company, 4.5 million people sail Carnival each year. Carnival is the world's largest cruise operator, and is parent to other lines such as Princess, Cunard, Costa, P&O, and Holland America. It does not appear the guarantee will apply to its other companies.
