Posted: Updated:
MARIETTA, Ga. -

A  woman accused of running an unlicensed care home for the elderly surrendered to authorities in Marietta on Tuesday.

Authorities say that 42-year-old Raequel Penny and six to 10 elderly and disabled patients had vanished after state investigators became aware that Penny was allegedly operating the home illegally.

Officers said they received numerous tips as to Penny's whereabouts.

"The police department was able to receive a lot of very good informational tips from the public as to the whereabouts and location of not only Miss Penny, but maybe the subjects and the victims in this case as well," said Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin.

Police photographs showed unacceptable living conditions in the home, including spoiled food in the freezer and the bathroom with no door or shower stall.

Authorities said the seniors in Penny's care were located and were in the process of being reunited with their families. Police did not say where they were found.

Penny was booked into Cobb County Jail late Tuesday.
