4 free smartphone apps for a healthier, happier you

If you've tried and failed diets, and you're not sure how to work-out; then, the answer might be right in the palm of your hand!

You can download dozens of free apps for your smartphone that can help you eat better and exercise. The FOX Medical Team's Beth Galvin has the skinny on four specific apps that we all can use!

They'll allow you to put your phone to use by helping you choose healthier things to eat and maybe even lose a little weight. These apps are free and they're easy to use. And, they do all of the work for you.

App 1: Lose It
Jennifer Gutke says it's helped her lose eight pounds by tracking exactly how many calories she's eating each day and how many she's burning as she trains for her first marathon.

If she wants to know how many calories are in her yogurt, she holds her phone up to the bar code on the cup.

App 2: My Fitness Pal
This app can help you workout a little smarter! Plug in which exercise you did and how long you did it. The app will tell you not only how many calories you've burned, but whether your trending in the right direction. Also, it has a database with the calorie counts of three million different foods.

App 3: Fooducate
The app lets you scan the barcodes of your favorite foods. Then, it grades them nutritionally from A to F – pointing out healthier choices.

App 4: Endomundo
If you need a fitness cheerleader, then this app may be just for you! It uses GPS tracking to track your workout, the pace and how long you've been going. The app let's you know when you're one step closer to your goal.
