Campaign sells Lakeland to young professionals

Posted: Updated:

If you're looking for a sleepy little town that rolls up the sidewalks at night, pass Lakeland by. That's the message from The Lakeland Economic Development Council. They are trying to lure young professionals and convince them to settle there by dazzling them with all the cool stuff the city has to offer. And the council says there is plenty to go around.

"Young, zany professionals are really an important part of a really healthy community," Meg Bellamy told FOX 13. Bellamy heads up "Y Lakeland," a push by the council to keep the city's pool of young talent growing.

Y Lakeland just kicked off its newest campaign -- a video contest for amateurs and pros alike. From now until November, Y Lakeland will be accepting videos that show the hip side of Lakeland. Each week, they will be posting another video they have commissioned on their website. At the end of the contest, they will be choosing winners and awarding cash prizes up to $1,000.

Y Lakeland also has a website with what to do and see. You can check out the monthly food truck rally, join the Runner's Club or zip around the city's slick new skate park.
