(FOX 11 / CNS) A woman led police today on a chase from Palos Verdes Estates to Carson, where she crashed into a drainage channel, suffering injuries, authorities said.
During the pursuit, which went through Torrance, the woman was fired on by officers but not hit, police said.
The chase began around 1:35 a.m., said Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt, adding that the 42-year-old woman attracted the attention of officers because she was driving recklessly.
Officers chased her east on Torrance Boulevard to the area of Jamison Avenue, where she stopped and then tried to use her PT Cruiser convertible as weapon and strike officers attempting to take her into custody, Watt said.
That's when an officer-involved shooting occurred, he said. The woman then drove the compact through a fence and into Dominguez Channel, where the vehicle overturned, Watt said. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries she suffered in the crash, he said.
She likely will be booked on suspicion of felony evading and was also being checked for drug and/or alcohol impairment, he said. Torrance police assisted Palos Verdes Estates police during the chase and were assisting in the investigation, along with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, in whose patrol area the chase ended.
