A body found off the coast of Clearwater this afternoon is, in fact, the Spring Hill father of four who went missing while wading off Sand Key on Labor Day.
Police in Clearwater confirm that the body of James Poindexter was found floating four miles off the coast this afternoon.
Poindexter, 27, was last seen just offshore at Bayside Park. His family says he was wading about 40 yards out when he began struggling in the water and then disappeared.
He was not a strong swimmer, they said.
Several agencies spent a day searching the water for Poindexter before strong currents forced them to call off the search yesterday afternoon.
It was before 2 p.m. Wednesday when police said boaters aboard a 31-foot catamaran found the body floating offshore. A fire boat retrieved the body and brought it to shore.
Clothing and jewelry on the body matched what Poindexter was wearing, police said.
